These species are significant as a bio indicator of pollution. Samples were collected from two locations: Veľký Choč and Čierny Váh. At each locality we selected twelve field sites, from which we collected samples of needles at the end of the growing season. They were analyzed with the Advanced Mercury Analyzer AMA 254 (single-purpose absorption spectrophotometry). Soil samples taken from both localities had mercury concentration values ranging from 0.1474 to 0.15224 mg.kg-1. Concentration in assimilation organs had mercury concentration values ranging from 0.00635 to 0.15224 mg.kg-1. The highest value was measured in three year old needles from Veľký Choč – 0.15224 mg.kg-1. We can confirm that the observed areas are not contaminated by mercury. ER -
