Abstract

Abiotic complex heterogeneity in the Zboj model area, the Východné Karpaty Mts., was studied in the framework of the research project “Biodiversity conservation in the Zboj stream model area”. The primary objective was to analyze abiotic complex heterogeneity of landscape as a key and causal factor limiting biodiversity of the area. This aspect was not analyzed in our current geoecological studies yet. Spatial raster analyses was applied to analyze quantitative spatial fragmentation of heterogeneity of litotopochores, morphotopochores, climatopochores, hydroto-pochores, and pedotopochores in the 30 × 30 m grid system. “F” parameter was applied to analyze the proportion of present categories from the total number of categories in the grids. Homogenous grids have zero values. Heterogeneity is understood as a character of hierarchical scale. During the evaluation process, it is necessary to propose hierarchism of spatial and numeric units. Correlation analyses with the biodiversity variables cannot be successful when they are not evaluated from the spatial hierarchical aspects. Methodological sollutions and recommendations for stepwise analyses under Idrisi software platform are given.
